Becoming One with the Snake
So you're sitting there on your boat, holding that Original Snake Lure and thinking, “Just how does this work?” Well the best way to fish the SNAKE is to BECOME the SNAKE. Now you're asking “How does one become a snake?” Remember all those snakes you have seen in your backyard, or in a field, off in the woods, or even on wildlife TV shows. The SNAKE is a SLOW moving creature. The snake methodically moves thru the bushes, the grass any kind of brush, with a purpose - to sneak up on its prey undetected before it strikes. When you are fishing the SNAKE , YOU are moving the SNAKE slowly, methodically, thru the grasses, lily pads , bulrushes, all that floating mat and timber, as if you are sneaking up on prey to strike, except now you are the prey. Pretend like the snake is sneaking up on you, twitching it slowly as if it was on the hunt, Pausing for two maybe three seconds to give it that life-like look as it coils up, That little pause and twitch creates more than enough disturbance on the water to draw attention to it and when you least expect it SPLASH!!!!!!!!!! – it's been swallowed by what could very well be the HAWG of a lifetime. |
Attract the Baitfish and the Hawgs will follow
An easy way to attract the baitfish to you is to make your own attractor. Take a can of cat food, mix it up with 3 slices of white bread and either some garlic oil or my favorite, Menhaden oil. Remember this will have a strong smell to it so mix this outside. Then all you have to do is put this mixture into one or even two nylon stockings, tie them off to your boat and hang them over the side while you fish. For the best results run it thru a blender real well. As you anchor fish and drift around it will slowly break up and disperse in the water and will attract the baitfish. Do remember to wash out the blender real well as this "cocktail", does not taste too good even with olives. Let this mixture disperse into the water around you, remember we are fishing an area SLOWLY, a completely different technique than many of you are accustomed to. Don't leave an area that you know that has fish in it to go check out another area where you think their might be fish. This mixture will invigorate the minnows which will in turn create activity and action with the predators, your snake lure being one of them. this is why it is very important to be as quiet as possible and thoroughly work the area.
