It is summer in South Africa and this fish was caught in 15ft of water with a water temperature of 74 Fahrenheit.
It was hanging about some brush and could not be seen in the murky water. It absolutely slammed the brown snake and had me busy for quite a while. The fish could not be weighed accurately as my scale bottomed out on 5kg. The fish was too large to fit into my livewell and could not be transported safely to an official weigh in station. I released it safely where I caught it. I have caught more six pounders plus during the past summer than I have caught during the past 15 years of Bass fishing. I received my snakes just in time for summer. Thanks for the solid advice and a great lure. The lure is not known in sunny South Africa and that suits me just dandy!!

Just having the snake tied to the end of my line is suspenseful, just fishing with it, alone, is exciting. The thing appears so real I have had a hawk swoop down and try to get it-no joke! But when you see that explosion of water and that snake disappears, OH MAN!!! There is truly nothing like it, especially knowing you got a lunker on the other end.
Thanks again Doug.

"So real even customs officers want them"
I have purchased some of your snake lures. The package arrived today minus the lures. They have been seized by Australian Customs. They have asked me for the manufacturers declaration. This is because, in the Authorized Quarantine Officers Opinion, the items are likely to introduce exotic pests, or diseases to Australia.

How to Catch 10 pound plus Largemouth Bass.
Hi Doug,
Fishing the St. John river in Central FL out of Lake Monroe and points due north. Fishing tips for river fishing this body of water. Are the fish going to be generally deep in the river channel or are they going to be along the rivers edge under over hanging trees. Lure choice for locating the bass?
Thanks
Mark
The St. John's river is a beautiful meandering waterway; the largest river in the world with water flow running south to north. As typical of most Florida waters, this river supports a large population of wild shiners (the preferred food of choice for the Predatory game, specifically LM Bass.) Shiner
imitators like Yo- Zuri and Rapala models, plastic worms, and my Original Fishing Snake work extremely well here when slithered off the bank around tree roots, limbs and pad beds. I tend to fish as much water as possible, and once I catch a few fish, I tend to try to locate areas that are similar in depth, nearby structure, etc. and make a note seeking those further down the waterway. This concept should be applied in other types of water as well.

Doug,
In a couple of months I'm going fishing at Devil's River close to Del Rio.
There are lot of nice smallies and was wondering if they would take your snakes? Thanks for the great product and keep up the good work.

re: the Snakes- Had a guide from W.Va. state he had caught a 8.5lb'r on the Red Viper, and was determined to get a 10. "2 days, nothing but stares. 3rd day, an 8.5lb'r." Remember, snakes are found in every state of the US except
Alaska. They are forage for predatory gamefish. Whenever you or I walk up to a pond, river, lake's edge on foot, we as humans are constantly looking down at our feet. Why? Because we don't want to step on a snake and snakes have babies which often travel near the waters edge; where ultimately many of them become food for the bigger predatory gamefish of all species, not just largemouth Bass.

"This by far the greatest lure I have ever used. I received mine in the mail and immediately went fishing with one of my buddies. He used one of those buzz frogs and all I threw was the snake. Not even an hour into our trip I hooked up with my first fish on the snake. It weighed 5.2 lbs. and approximately 20 minutes later I caught my second fish that weighed 6.12 lbs.. The snake consistently produced better fish than the frog. From now on I will not go to the lake without some of these great lures. I am currently in the proccess of ordering my second set of snakes and will be sending you the pictures of my catches once my film develops. Thank you for introducing me to the best lure on the market!"

"Doug your snake lure is the most lifelike looking lure I've ever seen. Hell I put one of the Black Moccasins in my swimming pool and my boy saw it and went to get my shotgun!" JT of Tulsa , OK
Dear Doug,
I gave some of my kids at school the snakes so they could use them during Spring break. All four kids LOVED them. They all had successful fishing trips and one of their dads specifically asked where he could get some snakes. I gave him your site. One girl caught three bass and a big catfish. They weren't ten pounders, but she'd never had much luck before and now is hooked on fishing. One boy who went multiple times caught over 26, the largest was 7.5 pounds. This was just with me giving them the snake and simple instructions, so if they watch the DVD they will do even better. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and making a difference in the lives of young people. Marc C

Testimonials straight from Bassin' Magazine readers:
This bait worked very well in the moss beds and suspended vegetation. I would recommend because it does work. -Kyle B. Clovis, NM
Good, lifelike movement which was very easy to control by twitching the rod. I had a great time learning how to work the lure into some pretty heavy cover. -Larry A. Longmeadow, MA
This is a great product that will help anglers of all experience levels to land the big one! This snake is very easy to use and the fish go nuts over it. A very simple system that puts big fish in the boat! I saw nothing but positive in this product. The quality and versatility was excellent. If you want to catch more fish and larger fish than you have been, this is the system! The thing that amazes me the most is the fact that you can catch many fish on the same snake as opposed to other plastics that are only good for 1 or 2. It works! Many lures out there are produced to catch the fisherman instead of the fish. This product is different and it really works! I went out the day I received the system and caught 14 largemouth bass on one snake!
-Wayne B. Parker, CO
This is very good bait. It looks so real. This product is like a worm but better. You have made a believer out of me. I got a 5lb, a 3lb ,and 6lb bass all on the black snake.
-Charles T. Bladenboro, NC
The Doug Hannon Big Bass System was amazing! I caught many fish in just one trip! The lures provide an amazing topwater action that seems to catch bigger fish. The lures entice big fish with their awesome action. The hook slot in the lure is a nice feature that helps in setting the hook.
-Nate T. Lowell, MI
The product is wonderful. Very good action. It catches fish. The product is excellent & I would recommend it to all fishermen.
-Ryan V. Casco, WI
I thought they were very good, they traveled thru the water like a real snake as I tested it right beside a cotton mouth and it was really neat. I already gave my buddy one of each color, he really likes them too.

Hi, Doug.
I bought some of these amazing snakes, and I fished them hard one weekend, about two hours a day. Well, I was skeptical at first, but after landing a four and five pounder that weekend, I'm a believer. Well, I was looking across old lures of my father's and found an old buzzbait, unlike any one I have ever seen before. It did not have the skirt of a spinnerbait, it had just a hook, and a curly tailed worm on it. A lightbulb went off in my head and I stuck a black moccasin on. The next weekend I landed two over three pounds in the first hour. The second hour, I landed the biggest bass of my life, a seven and a half hawg. I love the lures.
Have a great day, and catch some more 10+'s. Cole W.

I was very skeptical at first. After emailing questions that were promptly replied to, I gave it a shot. It was here on time, and the fishing snakes look great. The quality is amazing, a worthwhile addition
to arsenal. I really love the snakes that you sent me! The design, colors, and texture are just incredible. I am fishing a tournament at Lake Fork this weekend, and I hope I'm able to land a lunker for us. I'll send some photos. (I've fished the trick worm (the only lure I know of that's comparable, and these make it look like kiddy stuff.)

I was given my first snake a long while ago and with only a few lunkers it was lost to the 167 degree interior of a car in July. I have been meaning to get move forever now. I finally purchased more and wonder WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG. These things are AMAZING. On my home lake, 3 lbs is nice fish, 5 lb is a great fish and 7 lb gets to live in infamy on a wall. In just 2 days my brother and I caught 13, count them, 13 fish over 5 pounds!! 2 were over 7. We even fished during a FLW tounament on our home lake to see how we could compare with the pros. We beat the best stringers every single day except one. We got some jawdropping looks from the pros - us 2 local boys were in an old aluminum mon arc setting a standard that was unmatched. One guy asked us what our secret was and my brother replied. Its the SNAKE, standard issue for kickin ass and takin names. We couldnt help but laught and at the same time feel as if the fishing gods had smiled apon us.
Thank you so much Joshua G

TIP FROM THE PROFESSOR
Fish the Snake slow as though IT IS TRYING TO HIDE, little
short 4 inch movements then pause and let it coil and get in that defensive "S"
posture. They will crush it at next movement.
Guys and gals-Fish this lure in this UNIQUE manner, the big gals have seen
it all. To fool her, you must be natural and lifelike. Also cast this Snake
all the way ONTO the shore. Generally this is not a numbers lure, this is a
BIG Fish lure, once you blast a few 7-12 lb'rs with it, you will be a
believer as well. Nothing like Topwater hits. That is why we say- NO DINKS
ALLOWED™. One last hint, if you are fishing lilly pads and want to
increase the action of the Snake into a deadly wiggle - nip the paddle off the
tail and fish it that way, you will shake your head when you see this
action.

THIS IS A KICKER FISH LURE- For you Tournament anglers
Well, The snake gave me its first big fish. I have not used it very much in the past but I was determined to give it a try on Sunday out of Lox. On the third cast of the day I had a fish swirl on it and missed it when I threw back in on her she hammered it the took me down in the pads. Turned out to be just under 7lbs. Weighed in at 6lb 14oz. Caught her on the black snake with 50lb spiderwire and spinning outfit. The wind was blowing at 20 mph for the 10th tournament in a row ( it seems like anyway). So I could only stay out in the flats for a couple of hours. The water is to low in places and with the rapid growth of the native hydrilla I It was hell on the batteries. I ended up with the win weighing in 13.89lbs. Thanks to the snake. I am attaching a picture of the fish, hopefully it will transfer to you O. K. Thanks for the info on how to get that snake to cast properly. Tim Celesti

No Dinks here! Officer Harry and a huge 15.6 lb Florida SOW. That's a fiberglass replica. All Fish were released, unharmed. She blew up on it and missed the Grass snake twice, third time was the charm. Had another one on that may have been even bigger. Deep in the slop, where you would never expect a fish to live - especially of this size.

Doug ,
I would love to have seen the action of the New Brown Rat Snake. I
know the fish
that schooled me with the Black Moccasin sure got my heart pumping. It was
the most exciting 10 to 12 minutes I have ever had fishing. I had only
moved it about 5 feet toward the boat before I saw here, and almost fell
over the side of the boat when I saw how large she was. I was extremely
lucky to say the least, but did manage to get this nice picture for you. We
released her immediately so I can't say for sure how large ,but I'll guess
she was every bit of 9 lb's. Thanks for all you have done for the sport,
and all your great information.

The Lady's a World Champ
Mary D. with the Big fish of a local tourney in La, wins $3,000 finishes 2nd. 6.5 lb Snake lovin Bass.
For a weekly inside personal view of life on the Tournament Trail from Natural Motion Lures tournament professional and WBFA World Champion Mary DiVincenti, visit her site.
According to FLW Pro and WBFA World Champion Mary Divincenti, and The Bass Professor, Doug Hannon, you need to cast these Snakes right up onto the shoreline (Where the water temperature is several degrees warmer than where your boat is positioned) preferably the NW sector of your body of water as it will be warmer and generates the first life forms of the season and typically the most activity of the lake.
Ease the Snake off the bank, Slowly twitch with a STOP and GO motion--and listen very carefully-- This is not a lure designed to catch 2 lb or smaller fish, it is nearly 11" 's long and the old adage big lure big fish certainly holds true with this bait. So what you need to do and Mary had actual success catching her first FLW limit nearly 15lb's topped by a 6.5 lb fish by fishing very very Slowly---Do Not Rip this Snake across the top of pads, grass, weeds etc. "Become the Snake" and fish it as though you are the Snake seeking a meal, minnows, insects etc. UNHURRIED, the snake is the pursuer and is meandering around the edges, pads, grass, stumps, rocks, etc. etc. Whatever your primary shallow water cover — just SLOW down.
Doug,
I got a chance to use your snakes this weekend. I was fishing Shabbona Lake in Northern Illinois. I have never seen anyone catch a 7 lb bass around here before. This fish is THE BIGGEST BASS I HAVE EVER CAUGHT! I was fishing with my father at sun up on a giant moss covered weed bed. It was caught on my first cast of the day. It was also the only hit that either my father or myself (or anyone else on the lake that I saw) had for the rest of the day! The guy at the tackle shop asked what I was using & I told him an 11 inch black snake.
I had my doubts about using anything 11 inches for bass bait in Northern Illinois. I committed to using only the snake or a Castaic Gizzard Shad swim bait during this trip. My intent was to throw each about 50% of the time. I think I will continue to focus on big baits everywhere I go from now on.
Thanks again,
Joseph Z
P.S.
The monster was released after being weighed at the boat station certified scales. It weighed exactly 7lb. While not even close to a State record, it was 10 oz shy of the lake record.
